Type Long pips

This is probably the most dangerous long pips rubber for block play. Its weak point is durability.

The SpinLord Dornenglanz is still arguably the most dangerous long pimple rubber for blocking at the table. It has definitely been one of the most popular rubbers among the world's best pimple players for years.

The main feature of this rubber is the sticky and slightly reflective surface of the pimples. When the Dornenglanz was released, this texture was a completely new invention from SpinLord. Since then, several other brands have released similar products, but none of them match the playing qualities of the original.

The pimples of the Dornenglanz are extremely thin and also widely spaced. They are medium-hard with a tendency to be slightly softer and more elastic. The innovative pimple surface makes the Dornenglanz so extremely grippy that the pimples are relatively easy to play despite their small diameter.

At the same time, the pimples bend very quickly, making them very dangerous.

In addition, the stickiness of the pimple surface absorbs a lot of speed in passive blocking.

These factors, together with the unusually flat ball flight curve, are the secret of Dornenglanz and have made this rubber our most successful long pimple rubber ever in recent years.

Another great strength of the Dornenglanz is its universal applicability. Conventional long pimples have clear strengths and weaknesses. The Dornenglanz is probably the most dangerous long pimple ever, especially for blocking close to the table, but it is also very strong in every other area. Defending against undercuts, offensive disruptive shots - everything is possible without any problems and effectively, with good control values and a very good disruptive effect.

Most players will therefore play much more successfully with this pimple than before.

The speed of this rubber is slightly above most long pimples from SpinLord, but still well below the fastest long pimples on the market. The Dornenglanz is therefore one of the medium-fast long pimples.

The SpinLord Dornenglanz does not play like a "cured" long pimple. This is not possible with legal methods. However, even players who have previously played with "cured" long pimples will quickly get to grips with this rubber, as the Dornenglanz can be played without much use of the wrist.

Another major strength of the Dornenglanz is that it is almost as dangerous with all types of plastic balls as it is with the old celluloid balls.

Durability of Dornenglanz:

Unfortunately, Dornenglanz does have one weakness: durability. Due to the thin pimples and the rubber mixture, it is significantly below average. There are players for whom Dornenglanz lasts 6 months or more, but with an aggressive playing style, the pimples can break after just a few weeks, or even much sooner in extreme cases. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a specific minimum durability for the Dornenglanz; each player must find out for themselves whether the Dornenglanz is suitable in terms of durability.

The fundamental problem is also this: table tennis rubbers are becoming faster and spinier. The game as a whole is evolving in the same way. As a result, the strain on long-pimpled rubbers is increasing year by year. Added to this is the significantly greater strain on the pimples caused by 40+ balls. However, the durability of the Dornenglanz pimples remains the same as it was ten years ago. Their effective lifespan is therefore becoming shorter and shorter.

Please also note that, as with any other table tennis rubber, durability can vary slightly. Therefore, there is no guarantee that durability will always be the same.

In this regard, it must be clearly stated that the outstanding playing characteristics come at the price of reduced durability. It is not possible to make Dornenglanz more durable without significantly reducing the rubbing effect of the rubber. However, according to our tests, the quality and durability of the current batches are very good within the scope of what is possible for Dornenglanz.

If, despite everything, you still want to play with Dornenglanz because it allows you to win games that you would not be able to win with any other rubber (and this applies to many players), you should always have a replacement rubber on hand in case the pimples on your playing rubber break. Playing with Dornenglanz is therefore also somewhat more expensive in the long run. However, unlike the use of "cured" long pimples, this is legal and almost as effective.

Alternatives to Dornenglanz:

Of course, we also have pimples that have never broken, such as the “Sternenfall Pro”. However, the disruptive effect is slightly lower, but the control is higher and the rubber is more versatile overall. The “Sternenfall Pro” has made many players who previously played with the “Dornenglanz” particularly happy.

With the Hai, we also have a pimple rubber that can more than keep up with the Dornenglanz in terms of disruptive effect and is significantly more durable. However, the Hai is not as strong in passive blocking at the table, which is still the most important shot for many players.

Another alternative is the Greif Premium (be sure to get the Premium version, not the normal one). It enables effective passive blocking at the table with slightly less disruptive effect than the “Dornenglanz,” but significantly more control, comparable speed, and better offensive options.

Unfortunately, it is definitely not possible to achieve a disruptive effect like that of the Dornenglanz with similar playing characteristics, control values, and higher durability.

Incidentally, the new Dornenglanz X is quite different from the Dornenglanz and is therefore likely to have a different target group.

Note on the rubber colors:

Since 2022, the Dornenglanz has also been available in blue. In blue, the disruptive effect is slightly less than in red and black, but the control is slightly higher.

OX rubbers should be attached to the blade using an adhesive sheet. This is not included if you purchase a SpinLord rubber.

For rubbers with sponge, use a suitable VOC-free glue to attach them to the blade. Do not use glue sticks, adhesives containing solvents or any adhesive not specifically designed for table tennis rubbers.

Rubbers should only be attached to sealed blades.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that the rubber can be reattached multiple times. Depending on the type of sponge used, it may be damaged when removed from the blade, even with professional assembly.

Please also note that rubbers may warp to a greater or lesser extent depending on the type. Consequently, the amount of rubber adhesive required to assemble the racket varies from rubber to rubber.
Please refer to the instructions for using the rubber adhesive.
