Arguably the most unusual blade in a long time! It is innovative and outstanding to play with, and suitable for almost any style!
The idea:
We commissioned Michael Schneider to develop this new version of the SpinLord MIG1 because the original was rather stiff and heavy, making it inaccessible to the mass market and preventing us from achieving our desired sales figures.
This time, we therefore wanted a blade that uses sawn veneers for the outer layers and offers a certain degree of damping during passive play, while being so easy to use that even players in lower divisions could master it without any trouble.
The implementation:
We have significantly altered the veneer combination to achieve this, even though the blade's overall thickness remains at approx. 7.5 mm.
The new version consists of just three veneers and does not include any synthetic fibre inserts. In return, the sawn spruce veneers are significantly thicker than in the first version.
The MIG1 therefore consists of the following veneers (total thickness approx. 7.5 mm):
Spruce (outer veneer): 1.75 mm
Kiri (core veneer): 4.0 mm
Spruce (outer veneer): 1.75 mm
As a result, this blade has a slower, softer feel on impact, is not quite as stiff and yet remains very robust. The speed is now in the All+ range.
The blade design and size of the playing surface remain unchanged from the first version (the lens has not been altered either). At approximately 157 x 152 mm, it is slightly larger than usual. Consequently, players with pips or anti-spin gain greater control.
Playing characteristics:
This blade has the advantage of combining well with all types of rubber, including 'material' and inverted rubbers. The sawn veneers provide significantly more spin than conventional blades and have a more disruptive effect when used with pimples or anti-spin rubbers.
With the right rubber, this blade can be used for all playing strategies, from DEF (for modern defenders) to OFF (for offensive players who rely on spin).
However, it should not be paired with two thick inverted rubbers on both sides as this could make the racket too heavy and top-heavy due to the size of the playing surface. For a speed-oriented offensive strategy, it is too slow in any case.
Another feature of this blade is its distinctive sound. It produces a sound that is as bright and loud as that usually found in extremely fast Hinoki blades!
Miscellaneous:
This blade currently weighs approx. 85 g, which is slightly heavier than before. In our opinion, this makes it even better to play with. We guarantee a maximum weight of 89 g.
The handles are standard size (thus nowhere near as thick as the MIG2 blades and slightly slimmer than the first MIG1 series). The handles are made from solid, unstained Sitka spruce.
This blade is, of course, manufactured by Michael Schneider and his team at their high-tech factory in Neuwied, Germany (MIG still stands for 'Made in Germany').
Production of saw-cut veneers is labour-intensive and expensive, which is why knife-cut veneers are normally used for table tennis blades. Using saw-cut veneer significantly alters the playing characteristics. The blade becomes stiffer without becoming harder. The optimal ball-contact zone ('sweet spot') is also significantly larger and the ball bounce is more consistent. Only through the use of saw-cut veneers is it possible to produce a top-class blade with just three veneers. If the outer veneers were standard rotary-cut veneers, the blade would be too elastic and uncontrollable.
As with all this manufacturer's woods, this one also has a perfect finish, with rounded edges and a thin sealing coat on the striking surface. However, we recommend applying an additional thin coat of varnish to permanently prevent fraying.

The values given for speed, spin, control and disruption are based on our own tests. They may therefore differ from the manufacturer's specifications.

The playing surfaces (outer veneers) of this table tennis blade must be sealed to prevent damage to the blade.
If they are not sealed, the rubber adhesive can seep into the top veneer, causing it to flake off.
Furthermore, the top veneer may fray when the rubber is removed.
