Although it is still labelled simply ‘First Strike’, the First Strike II is an improved version of the original. There is now another improved version, the First Strike III, meaning that this version will be phased out in the medium term.

This blade's pace falls within the mid-offensive range. Unlike many other balsa blades, the First Strike II delivers a medium-hard ball strike with a harmonious sound – in other words, it does not sound 'tinny'. As with the Ultra Balsa, there is a distinctive sound with every stroke, which gives the player a sense of the optimal sweet spot. This boosts the player's confidence and, subjectively, the blade offers greater control.

The secret of this blade lies in the special selection of the 5.5 mm thick balsa core. Different varieties of this wood offer very different playing characteristics, and SpinLord has found the optimal variety for this blade.

The blade consists of a total of five veneers; the outer veneers are made of limba. The intermediate veneers are made of Avodire, a harder type of wood.

The hard, solid wood handle is comfortable to hold in any shape. The playing surface measures approximately 155 x 152 mm.

We recommend using the SpinLord First Strike II with softer rubbers for a European topspin style of play. However, it can also be used effectively with harder rubbers and short pimples for blocking and counter-playing. Although blades without balsa are more suitable for backspin balls, care has been taken with the First Strike II to ensure that this type of shot is still possible.

Despite its balsa core veneer, the SpinLord First Strike II is robust.

Latest information:
In the latest batches, the handle shells are made of solid hinoki rather than solid balsa.
This does not affect the weight or playing characteristics of the blade, as balsa and hinoki have a similar weight.
Please note that we reserve the right to supply the First Strike II with hinoki grip shells if the blades with balsa grip shells have sold out.

Note on balsa blades:
The variations in playing characteristics and weight are significantly greater with balsa blades than without. Even the best quality and selection cannot change this.
We recognise that balsa blades are nevertheless very popular, but professionals would never use one. Incidentally, we also prefer blades without balsa.

The values given for speed, spin, control and disruption are based on our own tests. They may therefore differ from the manufacturer's specifications.

Some values may vary, for example the weight of table tennis blades.

The playing surfaces (outer veneers) of this table tennis blade must be sealed to prevent damage to the blade.
If they are not sealed, the rubber adhesive can seep into the top veneer, causing it to flake off.
Furthermore, the top veneer may fray when the rubber is removed.
