The Ultra Carbon 2021 features the same veneer combination as the original Ultra Carbon.
It therefore consists of five veneers and two carbon inserts, with a total thickness of approximately 6.1 mm. The outer veneers are Limba, the intermediate veneers are Koto, and the core veneer is Ayous. The carbon inserts are made from carbon fleece, which is the thinnest and softest type of carbon.
The handles, on the other hand, are now made from solid hinoki. Consequently, although the Ultra Carbon 2021 is slightly heavier than the Ultra Carbon, at approximately 86 g, its weight distribution is less top-heavy, and its handles are slightly sturdier.
While not quite as sturdy as the Classic Carbon handles, they are noticeably sturdier than the 'old' Ultra Carbon handles. They are therefore suitable for players with normal-sized, strong hands, but not for those with smaller hands. This blade is therefore not suitable for children.
As most of Lion's offensive blades tend to be top-heavy with slimmer handles, the Ultra Carbon 2021 is a very good alternative for many players.
It offers all the advantages of a carbon blade: exceptional controllability and forgiveness for even technically imperfect shots.
However, it also offers something you could not previously expect from a carbon blade: a sensitive and rather soft feel on impact. You can play passive shots, such as backspin, effectively. It also offers optimum elasticity, supporting not only powerful offensive shots, but also play with maximum spin. This makes the Ultra Carbon 2021 only marginally stiffer than comparable fast blades without carbon.
It is particularly well-suited to inverted and short pimples. Using long pimples or anti-spin rubbers on the backhand is also possible, but only for play at the table.
Overall, the Ultra Carbon 2021 is the ideal blade for modern, high-spin offensive play. While not quite as fast as the Classic Carbon, it can be classified as a controlled offensive blade.

If they are not sealed, the rubber adhesive can seep into the top veneer, causing it to flake off.
Furthermore, the top veneer may fray when the rubber is removed.
